Heading South

Myakka River State Park

Down south again to visit with family and of course one can not go south without a stop to see "Mickey & Minnie". First stop, Sun N Fun RV Resort in Sarasota, FL. We have stayed at this campground many times over the years and is a great home base if you are visiting the Sarasota area. It's a nice campground, very popular with the "snowbirds" so forget about getting a campsite during that season. There is a huge pool, mini golf, and shuffle board and many more things to do.

We spent a day at Myakka River State Park. The park is beautiful, 58 square miles with a wide selection of things to do. There are 7 miles of paved road for bike riding, bird watching, boat tours, fishing, hiking, equestrian trial, boat ramp, cabins and a campground. There are three campgrounds for a total of 90 campsites. Each campsite has electric (20/30/50amp) & water. Only the campsites in Palmetto Ridge have sewer hookups. There is a dump station is available. We drove through the campground, the landscaping is all natural and campsites seemed to be a good size. We opt'd not to stay at the campground as cell service in the campground does not exist. Due to our son's health situation having no cell service is not an option for us.

Canopy Walkway @ Myakka River State Park

We walked the Nature Trail. It is an easy, level, very scenic .8 mile walk. At the southwestern portion of the Nature Trail is the Canopy Walkway. The walkway is suspended 25 feet above the ground and extends 100 feet through the trees. You can opt to return to the Nature Trail or if you don't mind heights venture up the 74 foot tower for a spectacular view. Warning, if it is a windy day you are going to feel that tower sway.
